Roofers are making goals to communicate more in 2025

Roofers are making goals to communicate more in 2025
December 30, 2024 at 4:23 p.m.

Editor's note: The following is the transcript of a live interview with RCS Influencer Trent Cotney. You can read the interview below or listen to the podcast.

Intro: Hello, I'm Alex with RoofersCoffeeshop.com and I'm here with Trent Cotney. Hello.

Trent Cotney: Hey, good to see you again.

Alex Tolle: Good to see you. We are here for the December Influencer topic. And this month's topic is how are you communicating with the people within your company to make sure the work they're doing is aligned with your company goals for 2025?

Trent Cotney: So in office, we've got Microsoft as our main platform. We're frequent Teams users. So I communicate on a day-to-day basis. I would say Teams is probably the way that I communicate to make sure everybody's doing what they're supposed to be doing. My issue is I'm always on a plane somewhere, so fortunately Teams is one of those things that still works while you're on a plane.

We try to have meetings. We'll have meetings on a weekly basis. If it's a bigger issue, it might be a daily basis and it might be subcommittees or teams that are working on certain things.
And then quarterly, we have a firm-wide construction group [inaudible 00:00:56]. So part of what we try to do is just to make sure that we're doing our best to reinforce important things. I'll send out blurbs to a teams group and just say, "Hey, just be mindful of this, that and the other," that kind of thing.

And then my role, as I'm sure a lot of our listeners' roles are in sort of a management position, is quality control, customer service, oversight that type of stuff. So a lot of what I'm trying to do is just make sure customers, clients remain happy. If there's information, that I'm a logistics guy. If information needs to get from point A to point B, I'm the one that makes sure that [inaudible 00:01:33].

So a lot of it is just staying on top of things. Out of sight, out of mind. So I try to constantly be in front of the team, reminding them of what's important and making sure that we're as forward-facing [inaudible 00:01:45].

Alex Tolle: Amazing. Yeah, that constant communication, we have the technology to do it, so you might as well use it and stay in front of your team, for sure.

Trent Cotney: Yeah, absolutely. It's easy now. You know?

Alex Tolle: Yeah.

Trent Cotney: Years ago you had to actually see somebody or pick up a phone. Now it's just a click of a button and you can communicate with someone.

Alex Tolle: Yeah. Amazing. Well, thank you so much, Trent.

Trent Cotney: Yeah, thank you.

Outro: All right, we'll see you all on the next Influencer.
