At The Coffee Shops™, one of our favorite parts of our job is getting to meet and talk to the incredible people that make up the roofing industry. That’s what inspired us to create our Stories from the Roof podcast series, that invites you to join us as we talk to our industry partners about what led them to our industry. In the newest installment of this series, Megan Ellsworth sat down with Chris Coryell, the owners of Coryell Roofing and a recent recipient of the Duro-Last Chairman award.
Chris originally got interested in the roofing industry from watching crews repair and restore his local area in Oklahoma after a storm in 2010. He explained, “Living in Oklahoma, we're surrounded by catastrophic weather and disastrous storms. So you're constantly around people who are trying to find solutions for solving problems. I became fascinated by this and noticed that there was a lot of room for improvement, specifically between insurance carriers and adjusters and contractors.”
Chris then turned this interest and inspiration into Coryell Roofing, which he founded in 2011 with his wife Theresa. He shared a bit about how it is working with his wife, saying, “My wife is my absolute rock, my number one partner. She and I are so good together in business. And so I think we've really helped each other because we’re so different from each other... I'm a high-flying visionary, she's a duty fulfiller and we work perfectly together.”
And that efficient work partnership has led Chris, Theresa and Coryell to success in the roofing industry. One of their crowning achievements was being honored in 2023 by their long-time manufacturer partner Duro-Last with a Contractor of the Year award.
Chris shared a bit with Megan about Coryell’s relationship with Duro-Last, saying, “I think a mistake a lot of contractors make is they don't pick a horse and ride it so to speak. 13 years ago we did that with Duro-Last and that has been one of the most beneficial things for us as a contractor. We love working with Duro-Last because they are so contractor-focused and they work with us to create opportunities to stay in the game and keep material going by elevating the type of system that we were offering.” They truly support Chris in his original goal of improving the industry where he can.
