Company growth leads to improved product line up

Bitec Company growth leads to improved product line up
August 1, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Exciting innovations and expansions that promise energy efficiency and durability.

In a recent episode of the Roofing Road Trips® podcast, host Karen Edwards delves into the significant advancements and new product introductions at Bitec Inc, with Joel Shealey, the company's president. This episode offers listeners a comprehensive look into Bitec's evolution, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and quality in the roofing industry.

Joel, who took over as president at the beginning of the year, shared insights into his journey with Bitec, which began in 2019. Under his leadership, the company has embarked on what he calls "Bitec 2.0," a phase marked by substantial growth and diversification of their product lineup. "We've added a tremendous amount of products and offerings to our lineup," Joel noted, describing the expansion beyond their well-known modified bitumen products to include a full coating line, insulation, fasteners and cover boards.

One of the standout additions to Bitec's portfolio is the Stronghold PVC and KEE membrane product line, which was inherited through the acquisition of Viking Products Group. This single-ply membrane has been well-received in the market, offering benefits such as excellent fire ratings, chemical and UV resistance and high wind uplift capabilities. "It's a product that we're proud to offer," Joel said. "You can make a really good roof system with a modified base sheet and a PVC cap sheet."

The conversation also shed light on the energy efficiency benefits of Bitec's products. The Stronghold line, particularly its white membranes, boasts an impressive Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 109, significantly reducing cooling loads on buildings. Joel highlighted the combination of these membranes with their elastotherm insulation and fasteners, which can lead to substantial energy savings in both heating and cooling.

Bitec's focus on quality and durability is evident in their approach to reroofing projects. Joel pointed out the advantages of their Imperfast fastener lineup, which offers some of the highest pull-out strengths in the industry. This strength ensures that insulation and other materials can remain in place during reroofing, reducing waste and costs.

Training and support for contractors are also a priority for Bitec. The company offers field support, demos and training sessions to ensure proper installation and usage of their products. "We want our partners and contractors to be that quality contractor that wants to do systems the right way," Joel stated.
