The Value of Associations

WSRCA Podcast with Rob Winkle
July 13, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter.

Why you should engage with your regional and local associations for the sake of not only your business, but the industry as a whole.

In a new Roofing Road Trips episode, Heidi J. Ellsworth heads south to visit with Rob Winkle, 2022 Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) president. The two discuss the importance of getting involved with your regional roofing association and attending conferences like the Western Roofing Expo 2022 taking place September 24-26 at Paris, Las Vegas.

“Western States was started back in 1974 so about 48 years ago, we're almost to our 50-year anniversary” says Rob. “It was started by a small group of roofing contractors that saw that there was a need for an association to help advance our industry.”

The history of the Westen States Roofing Contractors Association underlines the importance of local, state, regional and national associations on different levels. “WRSCA started out with technical information and installation best practices. It really just set the bar for the industry, for contractors to grow their business,” says Rob. “Not only do associations supply information regarding all of this installation and technical advice, but also material and best practices...Keeping everybody informed of those changes has made a big difference in the industry.”

Associations are not only a great way to give back to the industry by sharing your skills and knowledge, but they are a fantastic way to grow your network and engage with your community. Staying up to date on best practices drives the industry forward . Getting more involved within the industry is how we build powerful connections and share pivotal information that will help you reach your goals.

Rob shares, “From a contractor standpoint, it's without question thatone of the most important decisions you could make would be being part of this association.”

Listen to the podcast to learn more about the history of WRSCA and the work they do, and about why you should get engaged with your local associations.
