If you’re a contractor, getting involved with associations within the roofing industry is a great way to make connections and reap the benefits that they have to offer. On a new episode of Roofing Road Trips, host Heidi J. Ellsworth, checks in with Wayne Sorenson of the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) to discuss some of the advantages members receive when they join the association.
When asked about the benefits that WSRCA has to offer, Wayne was giddy to answer. “The knowledge you receive is great... [there’s] a lot of good interaction with speakers, a lot of information they pass on from state regulations, things like that.”
Even for the shy folks, it’s important to get out of your shell to take advantage of the networking opportunities.
“I can't stress the importance of mingling with other contractors, getting out of your cave, getting out of your shell,” Wayne says. “Mingling with people and just chatting about things. What goes on in general. What goes on is always a big asset to a smaller contractor, who is just trying to make a living. Sometimes you get yourself caught in that, like I say, a cave. You need to get out of that cave once in a while and mingle with other people.”
The WSRCA is a very accepting and welcoming organization that wants to help aspiring contractors. “Every board member has one membership that they can offer to anybody that they feel good about bringing on. With the idea that that board member will mentor that person and bring them along, make sure they feel comfortable being a member, and try to let them see the vision of what it's like. One thing that always helps, too, is get them to open up the website.”
