What’s new with MetalVue

Industry experts discuss the shift to metal residential reroofing at FRSA 2024.

During the 2024 Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) expo, Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke to Chris Morris from MetalVue. As a Sherwin-Williams program, MetalVue aims to help contractors and manufacturers sell metal roofs in residential and commercial areas. On the RoofersCoffeeShop® Sound Stage, they discussed the rise of metal roofing, its continued future growth and MetalVue’s ability to be at the forefront of innovation.

Metal roofing is quickly rising in popularity and was a prominent topic of conversation at FRSA 2024. Homeowner insurance has caused a spike in the switch to metal roofs in residential areas. “You have two big movements. So, in Florida you have to give what they call a good faith estimate. In Minnesota as of July 1 will also do that. So, I think there'll probably be a lot of precedents and folks will follow that. But yeah, they're talking about, or if you look at the storm activity that you've seen this year, it's been super highly active,” said Chris. This large precedent from insurance, that is becoming popular in more states, will likely increase the demand for metal roofing.

In the future, it is expected for hurricanes to increase in frequency and intensity. Areas that already experience hurricanes will be at more risk of damage. Many residential and commercial buildings will go through renovation to ensure their protection. Metal roofs have a higher wind resistance compared to other roofing materials and are the optimal alternative to protect buildings from potential hurricane damage. Chris explained, “We also think this is going to be the biggest hurricane season and insurance companies are sick of replacing the same roofs with the same address, with the same insures. So, you look at metal, just a natural fit for that. You look at the supply chain too. So, metal has not had that hiccup.”

Insurance will continue to influence the roofing industry towards metal roofing. Along with this factor, metal is an easy material to source and install. “It's accessible versus maybe some other things like tile and some other materials that are a little bit back ordered, where metal is vibrant right now,” Chris shares. Other materials can be difficult to find but metal roofing offers no hassle.
