The Shingle Changing the Industry

TAMKO shingle changing the industry
August 23, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby.

TAMKO visits with RoofersCoffeeShop® to tell us the secret behind the successful launch of Titan XT.

Positive feedback has been pouring in from the field since the launch of Titan XT! In a new Roofing Road Trips episode, Kim Eckerman and Melissa Dunson of TAMKO tell Heidi J. Ellsworth about how they have been working to get the Titan XT shingle in the hands of contactors across the country and highlight how tradeshows have allowed the shingle to shine.

“We went directly to contractors to figure out what they were looking for and turned that feedback into the ultimate re-roof shingle. It's an amazing product,” says Kim, telling RCS about the history of Titan XT. “The launch of Titan XT, as well as our Edge Contractor Program along with that, and it's been a really fun journey. You can see the adoption within the industry of getting excited about these products, welcoming them with open arms, especially once they get their hands on Titan and they realize how well the product performs.”

If growth is any indication of good feedback, then it is safe to say that the reviews of Titan XT have been glowing. But what makes Titan XT the ultimate re-roofing shingle? What is TAMKO doing differently?

“We have the expanded nailing zone, but the thing that really makes it so different in the industry is really the way we choose to reinforce that expanded nailing zone: it's a proprietary piece of technology; it's a reinforcement that we make in-house--It's called the Anchor Lock Layer,” says Melissa. “It's embedded in the common bond, and it is some tough stuff. And both how we make it and how we put it in the shingle just really gives it those performance qualities.”

Melissa adds that in addition to the Anchor Lock Layer they redid their sealants to make them more aggressive, and those two factors combined gave the company the confidence to give Titan XT a 160 mile per hour high wind warranty. Additionally, the top coating has been done. The shingle has essentially been created to be exactly what the contractor wants.

“When contractors feel it in their hands, they're like, "This is a really good shingle,’” says Melissa. “So early on we thought, "I think this is something that's going to be really important."

Listen to the podcast to learn more about what makes the Titan XT shingle so special and to hear why contractors are naming it as their new go-to shingle.
