S3:E6 Greta Bajrami – How Inspiration Became a Multimillion-Dollar Brand

Stories from the Roof with Greta Bajrami
March 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

By Colin Sheehan, RCS Reporter.

Listen to Greta’s moving story and learn for yourself the true meaning of dedication.

On this installment of Stories From the Roof, RCS partner Heidi J. Ellsworth chats with Greta Bajrami, CEO and founder of Golden Group Roofing. Greta has been featured before at the Coffee Shop, and you might recognize her from her Coffee Conversations episode. On this podcast, she goes into depth about how she turned a moment of inspiration into a multi-million-dollar brand.

When Greta was 9, she and her family migrated to the U.S. from Tirana, Albania. They moved to Worcester, Massachusetts and Greta eventually attended Worcester State University to study law. However, things took an unexpected turn for Greta as during her first year of college she became pregnant with her daughter Chiara.

“If you’re going to learn anything in this podcast, it’s that I rise up to a challenge,” said Greta. “I knew that my pregnancy was another challenge in my life, and that it came at an untraditional time, but no less, I was going to rise and accept it and continue forward.”

Greta decided that her next best move was to unenroll out of law school and enter business school instead, “I was a young mom dedicated to raising my daughter and dedicated to completing my degree on time like my friends.”

America was post-recession when Greta was in her senior year, and she remembers people having trouble finding jobs. Never one to be easily discouraged, Greta went to Craigslist and found a listing to become a construction supervisor/foreman.

“That’s how I stumbled into roofing,” said Greta. “It was supposed to be a summer job, but I decided to stay because I saw opportunity. I saw an industry that could use a different approach.”

Since that moment, Greta dedicated herself to building a new kind of roofing company. She soon applied her business plan that she had prepared throughout her senior year to the roofing industry and created her female and minority founded roofing company, Golden Group Roofing.

“My senior year thesis was called Tiramisu Café,” said Greta. “It was supposed to be a cafe in the Greater Boston area. I took Tiramisu Café, I scratched out the tiramisu part and the cafe part and I put Golden Group Roofing.”

Listen to the entire podcast to learn more about Greta inspiring story and how her company, Golden Group Roofing, is enhancing the industry.
