Reduce Waste — Use Custom Tiles

Roofing Road Trips reduce waste
November 22, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.

By Alec Doniger.

Gary Hines and Jeff Littleton explain how repurposing roof tile has changed the roofing industry both in Florida and the entire nation.

In Season 4, Episode 60 of Roofing Road Trips, Jeff Littleton of All Points Tile and Gary Hines of A&G United Roofing share their experiences repurposing old roof tile for customers. They work together in the world of custom tile blends. If a customer needs an old tile that can’t be found elsewhere, All Points Tile likely has it.

“We salvage roof tile and we resell it for repairs,” explains Jeff. “We also sell new roof tile, and we salvage leftovers from job sites.”

All Points Tile has been a Florida-based business since 2001. The original owner, Penn Marshall, had a “boneyard” of old tile before the company existed. People would call him to find specific tiles, and one day he had an epiphany. Jeff recounts the moment, “This could really be a business. This is actually something that would benefit the state of Florida. It would benefit the whole United States, keeping this tile out of the landfill and making it available so that it can be reused on roofs and not be wasted.”

This is exactly what All Points Tile has been doing for over 20 years. Jeff, the current company manager, has been educating new roofers on tile. Eight years ago, Gary was one of those roofers.

“I was working for a [different] company and they just weren't very honest people,” Gary says. “When I met Jeff… I was a novice at tile. He was way more than willing to help me out. We did six roofs on one street with his commercial blends. So that was my introduction to roofing. Jeff took the time to talk to me, getting me trained up on how to sell the tiles and different types of tiles and why we should use these tiles.”

The two also connected over their shared military backgrounds. They are honest people. Some roofing professionals only care about profit, but Gary and Jeff care about getting the job done right and saving customers’ money.

“If you don't need a roof, my job isn't to try to make you need a roof,” says Gary. “[Jeff] is a very honest person and doesn’t mislead homeowners to make money. Sometimes roofers or contractors can be shady in Florida.”

Together, they satisfy customers and make the roofing industry less wasteful. Like it says on the back of Gary’s business card, Jeff and Gary’s services are “built on integrity.”
