Georgia-Pacific Building Products has a rich history in the industry and has been a leader in bringing research and data forward to show how important cover boards are. At the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) 2024 International Convention and Trade Show, we caught up with Joe Firmin from Georgia-Pacific Building Products to talk about DensDeck® Roof Boards and what consultants had to say about their products and systems.
“I think it's been phenomenal to have so many people stop by and consult and say, ‘Oh, you're the only thing we spec,’” says Joe of his time on the show floor. “[As a manufacturer], we like to hear when people like your product and want to use it more.”
On DensDeck® StormX™ Prime Roof Board, one of Georgia-Pacific's biggest systems at the show, Joe continues, “Even though we launched StormX™ a few years ago, StormX™ is still a big topic. So, whether their FM is requiring it of them, or they're being asked more for it by building owners, people are asking about StormX™. They're very interested in how it can help protect their roofs.”
Joe attributes the popularity of DensDeck® StormX™ Prime Roof Board to the increase in severe weather across the nation. The premium cover board is not only moisture resistant, but also FM-classified for Very Severe Hail (VSH), offering enhanced hail and wind-uplift resistance in approved single-ply membrane assemblies. That’s why when selling, Joe always asks building owners how important the contents of the building are. “If you’re going to put a billion dollars' worth of equipment under there, do you really want to protect it with nothing?” he inquires.
