The existing roof on Joseph Caleb Daycare, an early childhood education center located in Miami, Florida, was failing and needed to be replaced. The building owner wanted an ENERGY STAR®-rated solution that would also comply with the south Florida wind-resistance requirements for high-velocity hurricane zones.
Because the building was a daycare center with 160 children inside and outside all day, the building owner wanted a solution that would not release fumes and odors during the installation, which began narrowing the roof system options. The center also needed to remain open during the installation.
To meet these strict requirements, Polyglass’ self-adhered, modified bitumen featuring CURE Technology® and ADESO® Technology was selected for its ease of installation, high reflectivity and durability. An additional challenge came into play for waterproofing the skylights. Their irregular shape would make flashing a challenge, so the contractor turned to Polyglass’ Polyflash 2C, an odor-free, liquid flashing system.
Florida Building & Supply was the contractor selected for the project and after removing the existing roof they installed a new 20,000 square foot Polyglass system.
