New Leadership Takes Bitec into the Digital Age

Heidi talks with David Allen and Joel Shealey about combining a strong, traditional company with new technologies. 

In a recent Roofing Road Trips Podcast, David Allen and Joel Shealey talk with RoofersCoffeeShop’s® Heidi J. Ellsworth about the change in leadership and future of Bitec. The three talk about Bitec as it celebrates 34 years of business and how Joel has brought new technological savvy to the business.  

Joel joined Bitec in November of 2019, just pre-pandemic, coming from the asphalt refining world. With Bitec for almost two years, Joel talks about the family connection of working with his father, Bruce, and long-term mentor David Allen.   

David, the new president of Bitec was Bitec’s first employee 34 years ago, working with former president, Bruce Shealey, for the last 42 years. 

With the transition in leadership at the company, Bitec is looking to the future and turning to more and more digital strategies.  

“Joel is definitely expanding my horizons with technology,” says David. “That's a good thing. We're glad to have him here, not just for that reason, but for other reasons as well.” 

“We have done a lot in the last year to move to online conferencing and video conferencing, video chats, CRMs and things that just weren't part of 1.0,” says Joel. “Some of it was by design, some of it was pandemic aided.” 

Regardless of how the new technology roll out has happened within the company, it is definitely a positive direction for the future of Bitec. 

“Joel is bringing a new life, creating the version 2.0, if you will, by bringing in the newer technology and the digital age," says David. “We are on an upward trajectory, both technologically and in sales and marketing.” 

Joel agrees adding, “We're seeing a lot of really good things coming for Bitec and a lot of really good things already happening for Bitec or that are in the pipeline.”
