Matching The Sealant to the Metal

Roofing Roadtrip with Darci Kunard
December 29, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

By Cass Jacoby.

Darci Kunard highlights why finding a sealant that can keep up with the performance of metal and look seamless is so important.

In a new Roofing Road Trips podcast, Heidi J. Ellsworth joins Darci Kunard from Franklin International and the Titebond brand to talk about color matching sealants. Tune in for expert insight from Darci about the boom in metal roofing and siding and the growing importance of color matching to promote customer satisfaction and labor savings.

Metal has taken off in the past few years due to its extreme durability, versatility, sustainability and compatibility with solar. With the popularity of this roofing material, there comes demand for products that work well with metal and live up to the longevity of the roof.

“We just came out with WeatherMaster and then we saw this need to come out with a metal roof sealant. And the reason that we are different is our metal roof sealant sticks to coated metals. When you already have painted or coated metals, not all sealants stick to it,” says Darci. “We came up with this formula that sticks to metal and passes the Miami Dade certification, which is one of the hardest certifications to get.”

Adhering to metal isn’t the only challenge for sealants, however, these glues also need to look good on the roof. Metal roofs notoriously add curb appeal in addition to being high performing, so when you are working with metal your sealant better match the color of the roof.

Darci tells Heidi that at titebond.com they have a color matching service to ensure that you can find a color match for any manufacturers of metal siding or roofing. “We do custom color matching as well,” says Darci. “You want to stand behind your work, you have to have products that work as well...We're very focused on making sure that the contractor has a great experience.”

Listen to the podcast for more information on Titebond sealants designed to work with metal and for more insight on how products like these work as solutions for contractors.
