Sika Corporation has expanded its roofing product line with the introduction of the SikaFast 3341 Adhesive, a specialized solution aimed at enhancing the bonding of PVDF resin-coated metals such as Kynar to roofing membranes. This product is designed to facilitate stronger and more durable connections at the roof edge and parapet walls, particularly when working with Sika's liquid-applied membrane (LAM) systems and PVC cover strips.
SikaFast 3341's application versatility stands out as a key feature, providing reliable adhesion between non-Sarnaclad Edge Metals and roofing membranes. According to the technical bulletins, the adhesive "allows the bonding of Sika’s LAM membrane systems directly to this metal which forms a rigid bond once cured." This is essential for creating a secure and lasting roof edge, crucial in environments with significant thermal expansion and contraction.
The product allows for two metal application methods at joints: sealed 8-inch metal butt plates and 4-inch metal overlaps. Both methods require the application of Sikaflex 1A sealant to form a moisture seal, followed by the installation of Sika Joint Tape SA. These techniques ensure that the metal components can move as needed without compromising the integrity of the bond.
Notably, the SikaFast 3341 Adhesive is dispensed using a specialized 490 ml 10:1 applicator gun, designed to deliver precise application even under varying environmental conditions. As outlined in the guidelines, "Weather, ambient temperature and application thickness will factor into how fast the adhesive starts to cure," typically stabilizing within 30 minutes.
This adhesive represents a significant advancement in roofing technology, providing contractors with a robust solution for achieving a secure bond that can withstand the forces of nature, keeping the edge secure and the roof intact. The introduction of SikaFast 3341 offers a reliable option for projects requiring the highest level of durability and flexibility.
