When veterans transition from serving in the military to living their civilian life, challenges often arise. Many veterans come back without the sufficient means to re-integrate with society. As a result, these veterans often struggle with homelessness.
To aid in getting our veterans back on their feet, Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center began a housing project. 25 tiny homes are under construction in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The houses are very small, 18 feet long and 8 feet wide, but they are enough to give veterans a fresh start. Each one will have a full bathroom, futon, and mini fridge.
MD Roofing donated their roofing materials to the project, free of charge. Randy Dorenbos, owner of MD Roofing was glad to give to such an important cause. He said to ABC News, “I think the greatest goal here is to take these folks that are living in their cars or living in the streets… and putting them into a community of folks who have experienced the same things they have.”
This housing community is only the first phase of this $3 million effort to help our veterans. Duplexes, a communal kitchen and a laundry room will be built in the second phase.
This will substantially impact veterans’ lives for the better. With proper rest, cleanliness, and shelter, veterans who stay here will have the resources they need to live safely and healthily. It is easier to begin a new chapter in one’s life if they have their survival needs met. Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center are doing just that for our veteran. Veterans will appreciate this wonderful display of gratitude.
Do you know of someone in the industry who is ‘doing good deeds’ in their community? Help us catch them at it. Send news and information to info@rooferscoffeeshop.com.
