In Season 5, Episode 83 of Roofing Road Trips®, host Megan Ellsworth sat down with Christee Holbrook, Jennifer Keegan, Christine Mockenhaupt, Anna Anderson and Michelle Boykin — Executive Council Committee of National Women in Roofing (NWiR) that oversees the 2024 NWiR Days. These talented women are experts in their fields. Jennifer, or Keegan as she’s known in the organization, works with GAF. Anna is the owner of Art Unlimited and Michelle is the chief operating officer at Rackley Roofing. Christine is the newest member of the executive council and works at SRS Distribution Inc. Christee is the owner of Graham Roofing in West Point, Mississippi.
They are all working together with NWiR in preparation for February 4-5, 2024, when the National Women in Roofing Day is celebrated in Las Vegas at the Convention Center. Anna explained, "Our goal is to really help them hit it out of the park in the coming year, empower them and our supporting allies in the industry.” The theme for NWiR Days is Hitting it Out of the Park and Jennifer explained how their keynote speaker, Dr. Kimberly Hardin, embodies this as she focuses on allyship and support, “We really wanted her to hit home the point of how we can all really advance in the industry collectively with leveraging allies and advocates.”
The group is excited about the conference and everything it offers for women in the roofing industry. One thing NWiR focuses on in this conference is providing classes to help empower women to rise to their full potential in a traditionally male-dominated field. Michelle highlighted their business development classes saying, “I’m super excited to learn about maximizing your customer experience and recruiting talent, those sorts of things that are always top of mind for a business leader.” Christee is also looking forward to the educational sessions, sharing, “I’m excited about the career path class, which is managing family and friends in the workplace, because I have a family-owned business.”
In addition to classes, Christine explained how the NWiR Days are more than just a time to attend classes, it’s a space for women in the industry to build community. Her advice? She shared, “I recommend going to talk to people that you don't know. Make a bunch of new connections.” The event offers a space for women in the industry to find support, as Christee echoed when describing her experiences with NWiR Days, "Walking into that room and realizing that I have found my people, they understand the language that I speak and just having that connection and making those friends that I've made just keeps getting better every year.”
