In a new Roofing Road Trips podcast episode Heidi J. Ellsworth visits with KPost Roofing and Waterproofing’s Safety Manager Luciano Perez for a conversation about the new class coming to International Roofing Expo (IRE) that is focused on Latinx culture within roofing.
“This is the first time that we're going to do this at the IRE event. Something related to Latino, and something related to leadership, and also safety. Not just the OSHA stuff, but just leadership, and safety, and culture,” says Luciano. “I will be moderating the session, and ask them obviously key specific questions so the panelists can share with us their insights, and how they know the struggles, the challenges.”
The first-of-its-kind class is appropriately named “Challenges and Opportunities when dealing with Safety and the Latino Workforce: Are you a Good Safety Leader?” and will help your company identify challenges and opportunities when dealing with safety and the Latinx workforce.
“They already know the installation of the torch-applied system, or the single-ply system. They already know that. What we need to do more, is to teach them the leadership skills that they need so they can do the job better,” says Luciano. “We need to empower our workforce, that is the key.”
Additionally, the class will cover how to better communicate with Spanish-speaking coworkers and highlight how the role of leader vs. manager fits within the bigger picture of Hispanic culture. Building safety into the culture of your company is essential to your business’ success, you won’t want to miss this class that works towards finding ways to better build a culture of safety, even with language barriers and better your leadership.
Listen to the podcast for more insight into how to better communicate safety and promote Hispanic leadership within your company and for more information on this groundbreaking class at IRE.
