Cybersecurity options for you

Peter Horch - Cybersecurity options
December 19, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

RCS Influencer Peter Horch explains what he's been seeing with data protection, including cyber insurance, data retention and working with software providers.

Editor's note: The following is a transcript of an video from Peter Horch, owner of Horch Roofing. You can read the transcript or listen to the video below.

Peter Horch: Hello, this is Peter Horch from Horch Roofing up in Warren, Maine. This month we're talking about cybersecurity. In this day and age, I don't have to tell anybody about how important cybersecurity is. It's all over the news. I personally had a friend who had their data held hostage for ransom, and it didn't sound like it was fun at all. So, a couple things you can do. First of all, talk to your insurance company. There's cyber insurance that's offered. It's not that expensive, and if there's any of your data that's compromised, you're not held liable.

Second of all, hire an outside IT company to come in and monitor your company equipment, company-issued cell phones, laptops, desktops, servers. Once a month, somebody should be looking at those and making sure they're up-to-date, and secure, and safe from any cyber attacks. Also, check with your software companies, any cloud-based companies you used and see what they're doing to make sure that your data is protected. Lastly, make sure you're training your employees. If anybody opens an email that isn't legitimate, it could be really bad news for your business. So, training of your employees and making sure they understand the importance of cybersecurity is important as well. So, if you do those few steps, you should be all set.
