Preventing Cyber Attacks With Quality Security Measures

RCS Influencer Steve Little Owning Your Data - 2023
October 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

RCS Influencer Steve Little says that his company has implemented many security measures over the years, including cyber insurance.

Our cyber insurance carrier has been VERY proactive with us to help train our IT staff on ways to prevent cyber attacks. Of course it is in their best interest as well but they do a great job. Our cyber carrier runs extensive tests on our network to find any potential areas of concern.

Since the increase in cyber attacks over the last few years we have implemented several additional security measures to help reduce the chance of a cyber attack. They include:

  • Enabling multi-factor authentication
  • Group policy requiring every workstation to automatically logoff each evening so that viruses set to run at off times cannot be executed
  • Immediately alert the company to phishing emails that we see coming in
  • Banned e-mails coming in from certain foreign countries where we see increased phishing e-mails
  • Using Datto backup servers to backup all of our file data. Backups are also replicated on an offsite server in a secure Datacenter.
    • Full backups are completed each evening.
    • Incremental backups are completed every two hours so the loss of data would be minimal in case of a cyber attack
  • Our servers can be booted up in the offsite environment in case we have any physical damage to our equipment on our campus – or rolling blackouts during “the great Texas freeze”
  • We use a software called “Duo," which is an additional multifactor authentication layer specifically for our servers.

Steve Little is the president of KPost Roofing & Waterproofing. See his full bio here.
