In Season 5, Episode 53 of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Richard Carroll in Sisters, Oregon. Richard is the co-founder of Caroll Consulting Group and studied mechanical engineering at the University of South Florida. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry, starting as an apprentice while he was attending school. From there he worked as a journeyman, foreman, supervisor and company owner. He always comes back to roofing, so when he retired from the industry, he didn’t want that to be the end. He elaborated, “When I retired from the business I wanted to stay engaged. So, we started the Carroll Consulting Group.”
At Carroll Consulting Group, he works with companies to design a business plan to help them succeed. He credits his experience in all aspects of the roofing industry for his ability to help others, saying “I was so lucky to build my business acumen, it was because of the diversity of the companies I was working for.” He sees Carroll Consulting Group as a way to use the knowledge he has gained over the years and give back to an industry that has supported him for most of his life. He explained, “I have so many people that have helped me through the years. I really appreciate that.”
Richard looks at the young professionals in the industry and sees his past self. He wants to make that full circle moment, to help them and watch them grow. He elaborated, “There's nothing better than having someone starting to explain a problem, and you're like, ‘Okay, I know the answer.’”
