A Multi-state Approach for Roofing Labor Challenges

Southeast Multi-State Approach
September 2, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

By Adam Cabrera.

Labor staffing agencies can bridge the gap, connecting contractors with eager workers ready to travel.

Labor shortages have long posed challenges for the roofing industry. However, in a recent Roofing Road Trips episode, Heidi J. Ellsworth got to chat with Teresa Ramirez of Southeast Contracting Services who believes she's found a solution by connecting businesses with good workers across the country.

"We have a lot of good people... that are in need of a job anywhere in the U.S. Usually, they're ready to travel and learn new trades in any type of construction industry," says Teresa.

Southeast Contracting Services specializes in filling gaps in crews by providing individual workers to roofing contractors as needed. "For example, in a crew they have six guys, and they are missing two spots, then just let us know and we'll be very happy to assist you," Teresa explains. With the company's thorough recruitment process that involves face-to-face interviews, drug tests and background checks, roofing contractors can be confident in the quality of the labor force they're getting.

Another unique advantage of finding workers though Southeast Contracting is their willingness to travel. "The people that I'll send, since they're not from the same town, they are willing to stay there for at least two or three months," Teresa mentions. This commitment is vital for contractors who undertake extensive projects.

Yet, with the high demand for skilled workers, Teresa emphasizes the importance of quick decision-making on the part of contractors. "If you require a skilled worker, maybe it takes a little longer, like 15 business days, because sometimes everybody's fighting for the good guys and the guys that know the trades."

For roofing contractors facing labor challenges, Teresa's message is clear: "If you're looking for skilled labor, looking for skilled roofing professionals, you need to get with Teresa."

Teresa's dedication to not only support the roofing industry but provide innovative solutions to labor problems is apparent. The future looks promising for those embracing these labor solutions.
