The new Secure Choice™ roof system is a family of residential products to support our many shingle lines on steep slope roofs. Beginning at the roof deck, the system includes underlayments, as well as starter shingles, field shingles, and finally, ridges. These products are manufactured and controlled for quality and dependability by Malarkey. Together, the components of the roofing system assure homeowners that their choice, is a Secure Choice™.
Malarkey shingles are engineered for performance. At the core of every shingle is NEX® Polymer Modified Asphalt Technology that uses polymers to rubberize shingles for all-weather flexibility, strength, and resilience. This technology provides industry-leading impact protection from hail and debris. It also creates more resilient, flexible shingles that better withstand temperature swings and weather extremes. Beyond the asphalt, Malarkey shingles have additional performance features. Specialized granules are offered that reduce smog, resist algae, or reflect sun light. The Zone ™ wide nailing area helps ensure shingles are properly fastened and effectively shed water. Six bonds of proprietary synthetic rubber adhesive (SEBS) seal shingles and block out wind and wind-driven rain.
Malarkey roofing shingles are sustainably designed. While standard shingles are made with oxidation, highly pollutive, century-old, technology, Malarkey pioneered a better way- bypassing harmful oxidation processes and adding polymers to the asphalt instead. These polymers come from synthetic and recycled sources like car tires, diverting their entry into landfills. The result is a more sustainable, rubberized shingle with exceptional durability and longevity. Today, each 30 square roof diverts the equivalent of 5 rubber tires and 350 plastic milk jugs from the landfill.
Malarkey shingles help improve our environment. Air quality is a health concern for us all, which is why we created the first smog-reducing shingle. 3M™ Smog-reducing granules blend inconspicuously into every Malarkey shingle and actively reduce air pollution. Once activated by UV rays from the sun, smog-reducing granules break apart airborne water molecules. The newly-formed OH molecule, called a hydroxyl radical, binds to the smog molecules (NO, NO2). This chemically transforms smog from a dangerous, inhalable gas into a water-soluble nitrate salt (NO3). NO3 is a more plant-usable form of nitrogen that is deposited on the roof and washes away with rainwater. Like trees, Malarkey shingles fight air pollution by converting smog gases into water soluble ions. Each Malarkey roof with 3M Smog-reducing granules has the smog fighting potential of 2 or more trees.
Shingle granules are a small thing that make a big impact on the life and appearance of your roof. Granules have four functions: UV ray protection, appearance, work surface safety, and manufacturing processes. At Malarkey, we’re a family business started here in the US in 1956. Our guiding principle is simple – build the shingles we want on our own homes – made better to last longer, and with the least environmental impact.
Shingles protect your roof, accessories complete it. Shingles are at the core of any new roof. But a complete new roof includes 4 additional components – ice & water barrier, underlayment, starter shingles, and hip & ridge shingles. Installed together, the roof works better, which is why we extend greater warranty options if you use Malarkey products and a Malarkey Certified Contractor for installation.
Architectural shingles, sometimes called laminate shingles, utilize a dual-layer construction which gives them weight and strength to better withstand extreme weather, as well as added roof dimension for overall curb appeal. Architectural shingles are our most popular style. See why in this video.
Underlayments are vapor barriers beneath the shingles. Delivered in roll form, underlayment, as the name implies, sits under shingles (over ice & water barrier) and provides a water-resistant or waterproof layer covering the entire roof. Malarkey offers various underlayments to accommodate differing performance requirements.
