As we face increasing environmental challenges and economic uncertainties, sustainable practices and resilient roofing systems are critical to ensuring the longevity, efficiency and environmental impact of our built environment. Sustainability efforts aim to reduce the carbon footprint and resource consumption, while resiliency focuses on the ability of structures to withstand and recover from adverse conditions such as extreme weather events. These concepts impact everything from material selection to design practices and maintenance struggles.
To advance our understanding of sustainability and resiliency (S/R) initiatives within roofing, the Roofing Alliance has teamed up with Clemson University’s Construction Science and Management program. This collaborative effort is part of the “Sustainability and Resiliency (S/R) Efforts for the Roofing Industry” project. This pioneering study seeks to document and analyze the current state of S/R efforts throughout the U.S. roofing market, focusing on the entire supply chain.
Having successfully examined S/R factors within the broader construction industry, Clemson researchers are now zeroing in on the roofing sector. This data collection will provide valuable insights specific to roofing professionals and their practices. Your input is crucial to this endeavor, and we invite you to participate by completing a brief survey tailored to your role in the industry:
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Your part involves answering survey questions, requiring roughly 15 minutes of your time, and if you are interested, participating in a follow-up interview.
You can contribute significantly to understanding S/R efforts in the industry and help develop training modules to educate industry professionals for advancing these efforts nationally. Please complete the survey by June 7, 2024, using the links above. Your contribution will help pave the way for innovative practices and educational resources for the benefit of the greater roofing community.
All responses will be treated confidentially, and you may reach out to Dr. Dhaval Gajjar at dgajjar@clemson.edu or Jason Lucas at jlucas2@clemson.edu with any questions.
