Why roof inspections are key to contractor success

Jobba Why roof inspections are key to contractor success

By Jesse Sanchez.

Roof inspections aren’t just about maintenance, they’re a vital investment in a contractor’s long-term success.

Roof inspections can make or break a roofing contractor's business. While some view them as a cost, the experts in this CoatingsTalk argue that inspections are an essential investment for long-term success. The discussion, featuring Eugene Zukowski of Jobba Trade Technologies, John Kenney from Cotney Consulting Group and Joe Sorrentino of Sherwin-Williams, explores the strategic value of roof inspections and how they go beyond simple maintenance.

“Inspections fall into quality,” John noted during the conversation. He expressed the importance of conducting internal quality control inspections before any final review with manufacturers. “When you get to that final inspection, it should be basically a handshake, and everybody moves on.”

Eugene added that inspections are more than just routine checks — they’re about thorough documentation and keeping all relevant data in one place. “There’s the paperwork, the date filed, the stipulations… having all of that information in a single place is very key,” he said. This centralized approach ensures that contractors can easily manage warranty requirements and handle any legal issues that may arise.

Inspections also serve as a critical tool in building trust and partnerships with building owners. “The more disciplined inspections are done prior to installation to prepare a crew are critical to the success of a project,” Joe stated. He noted that proactive inspections allow contractors to be “responsive, rather than reactive,” especially when unexpected problems occur.

This panel of experts also discussed the practical tools and techniques necessary for effective inspections, including the right technology. Eugene stressed the importance of using software that adapts to various scenarios, ensuring data is accessible and easy to share. “You want technology that’s customizable to be able to capture all the information that you need,” he explained.

For roofing contractors looking to elevate their business, these experts suggest making inspections a cornerstone of their strategy. By integrating thorough documentation, leveraging technology and prioritizing partnerships, contractors can not only enhance their service quality but also protect their business from potential legal issues. As John concluded, inspections offer “a win-win for everybody.”
