From the significant financial investment it requires to the variety of decisions that must be made, getting a new roof is a big endeavor. But you can take away some of the stress from your homeowners by helping them see composite roofing as a great option. In this Read Listen Watch® (RLW) webinar, Jason Totin and Jason King stopped by The Coffee Shops to outline how composite offers a high-performance solution at an affordable price.
Jason T. is the president and owner of Totin Too, a roofing company out of Pennsylvania. He has spent over two decades working with customers in the field and one of the reasons he often brings up composite is their performance. He explained, “There aren't many products out there that you could truly call maintenance-free. Composites are about as close as it gets.” If a homeowner chooses a more traditional asphalt, the granules will wear off. With natural slate and tile you run the risk of cracking over time. Metal can rust, paint peels, but composite stands strong. Jason T. went on, “The composite products, nothing can really touch this stuff. Insects are not going to bore into it. Mold and algae aren't going to grow on it. There's no painting. If it does get dirty, it's easily cleanable by simply power washing it.”
Jason K., a territory sales manager at DaVinci Roofscapes, the leading developer of composite roofing in the U.S., added, “With composite, you're going to have phenomenal performance under harsh weather. With most composites, they achieve a Class 4 impact rating, they tend to be Class A fire rated product and are often rated for up to 180 mile per hour wind uplift. In the real world, we have roofs that have blasted through 100 hailstorms with no damage whatsoever. We have examples of roofs that have been through half a dozen hurricanes over the years with no shingles or no tile coming off the roof, which is really impressive to be able to promote that type of product with those types of performance attributes.”
Not only does this high-performance mean that maintaining a composite roof is easy and low effort for homeowners, but it also means that they are often a better investment financially. Jason T. broke it down into some numbers, sharing, “Let’s say it’s $20,000 for an asphalt shingle roof and maybe it's $40,000 for a composite. But the cost of the shingle roof will actually increase as you’ll need to replace the roof two or three times. By the end, you might end up spending $90,000 on the shingle roof before the composite one wears out.” In other words, while a composite roof is more expensive initially than some other options like asphalt, the total cost of owning one is actually far more affordable.
