Who Doesn’t Love a Surprise?

RCS - Caught Doing Good
May 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

By Lauren White, RCS Reporter.

An Air Force veteran is overwhelmed with gratitude after receiving a free new roof.

In 1985, Michael Kutemeyer joined the United States Air Force.  He now lives in Rincon, Georgia with his family.  In need of a new roof, Michael was in disbelief when a local roofing company presented a free new roof to Michael and his family.

Michael’s roof was donated by Monarch Roofing and their Roof for Troops program.  This program, developed in partnership with GAF, has one goal, which is to give a free roof to a veteran service member or public safety individual in need.  “These great patriots have done so much for our country and community that giving them a free roof seems so small,” according to Monarch Roofing.  Recipients are nominated through one of the veteran groups they have partnered with or a community member.  To date, Monarch Roofing has donated 15 roofs to veterans.

Thinking it was too good to be true, Michael couldn’t believe something like this was happening to him.  Humbled by his gift, Michael stated in his interview with Fox 28 Media, “I didn’t serve because I expected anything, I did it because that’s what I wanted to do.”

When he finally realized this gift was for him, he was immensely grateful, sharing, “Honestly overwhelmed, just thankful, would’ve never thought that this would’ve happened to me...But I’m thankful to everyone, especially Monarch Roofing for choosing me and my family to do this wonderful thing for all of us.”

Alicia Tetreault, the marketing director of Monarch Roofing noted, “It’s so touching, it’s so hard not to cry when you see that...Even just to surprise them with something like that because they’ve given so much to us, being able to get back in a little way like that, it’s incredible.”

Michael protected this country during his service, and now he has a new roof to protect him and his family.  “It means that my family will be protected with a nice roof and from the storms and everything.  And Monarch Roofing, it’s amazing that they do this.  Certainly I’m very blessed that they chose me...” Michael shared.  This is one way Monarch Roofing can say “thank you for your service” to Michael and to all other veterans who have received a free new roof.
