What’s Your Exit Strategy?

Roofing Marketing Pros Exit Strategy
August 20, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.

By Roofing Marketing Pros.

Planning ahead to ensure your company will be left in good hands.

One of roofing contractors biggest fears is the future of their companies once they retire or decide to move to a different industry.  If they are lucky, they can pass the reins to their families; this is why you see many father/son companies in roofing. But if their families are not interested in roofing, they will have a problem when they decide to leave the company or the roofing space.  If there is no exit strategy then there won’t be much of a financial reward.

For a lot of roofing companies, even though they’ve built multi-million dollar companies, they have a hard time selling to outside investors.  This happens largely because there are no systems in place that the acquiring company can implement for future profitability. Most companies rely on the founder to generate new business.

When the founder is gone, what will happen to the company?

One of the main objectives of every company is to build it in a way that doesn’t rely too heavily on its founder.  “Built to sell” is a mantra that every company should strive for even if you have no intention of selling your company.

A significant challenge in building a sellable company in the roofing industry is having an inbound lead generation system.  Most contractors rely on outside companies to generate leads for them. An acquiring company will not be interested in using HomeAdvisor for such services.  They need to know that the company can run on its own without outside assistance.

If you create and implement a customer acquisition system for your business, you will become a valuable asset that is attractive to outside investors.

So, what’s your exit strategy?  Have you thought about what will happen to your company once you leave?

If you want to implement marketing systems that will help your company become an asset, then we should talk.  Schedule a free strategy session.
