In a recent interview, I was able to visit with Chris Jurasek, EagleView CEO, about their recently announced EagleView Platform. As a part of MetalCoffeeShop™ and the MetalVue program, EagleView has been active on the metal roofing front, and they continue to push technology to new levels.
Founded in 2008, EagleView has become an everyday service in the roofing industry and has recently made leading updates and opportunities for metal contractors using aerial imagery reports teamed with the Sherwin-Williams Roofing Passport. In this interview, Jurasek shares information about their most recent release that is providing an ecosystem of development for a large number of industries: the EagleView Platform.
Having been a part of the EagleView start-up it was exciting to hear about the updates that have really defined EagleView in the last few years. Jurasek noted that the high resolution of their aerial imagery along with the ability to capture and then create 3D models of structures is the key to their success overall and especially with metal roofing installations.
According to a January 23, 2023, press release, “1-inch ground sample distance (GSD) aerial imagery is the industry’s highest standard with each pixel representing one square inch of ground area. The oblique imagery, which is usually captured at a 40-to-45-degree angle, provides enhanced clarity and side-angle views of buildings, homes and properties.” The high-resolution imagery is all available in the EagleView Cloud and Platform.
The EagleView Platform is really about helping people and companies to create tech stacks that solve problems. EagleView is incredibly embedded in the insurance and construction industries in addition to their long-term relationships with government agencies, primarily tax assessment, across the country and they are ready to help create similar solutions in different sectors. The platform will work as a space where companies can use EagleView and their own imagery and data to create new use cases to help solve problems.
“We have spent over $5 million growing solutions for our construction vertical including driving innovation in walls, roofs, metal and solar. We want to share that innovation from the construction vertical with new potential industries that can utilize the data and the platform,” stated Jurasek.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, EagleView is utilizing the tech stacks they have developed for construction, insurance and government to help new industries create similar success. This includes verticals like infrastructure and utility light systems utilizing the platform to solve problems for line transmission and asset management patterns.
A key benefit is the ability to use EagleView’s well known change detection to understand how communities continue to change over time. Due to the breadth of data that EagleView has collected over the last twenty plus years they are able to offer insights that can create opportunities or answer questions. For example, they can provide the pool industry with data about how many swimming pools are in a neighborhood and even more insight into how many are new. For roofing this can include storm damage and new construction.
Part of the intelligence also includes imagery and data from drone footage that is providing even higher resolution imagery. With ongoing improvements in artificial intelligence or machine learning the opportunities are endless on how to strategically review and utilize the data. Developers can use the EagleView platform with drone, aerial or satellite imagery that they upload or the imagery that is already captured to start solving new problems or answer ongoing questions.
It is not just about measurements or assessment. Companies are using the EagleView platform to look at solutions for lead generation and condition assessment. It is the opportunity to work within a proven platform that can provide the data and API opportunities for the next great breakthrough.
“This is for anyone looking to use technology and data to solve problems or answer questions,” stated Jurasek. “It could be used by very large roofing or metal contractors who are developing their own software solutions or by new startup companies in totally different sectors. They can work with the EagleView R&D team to figure out how to utilize the data and utilize potential machine learning to create the next great software solution.”
"With the launch of our new platform, we are opening access to the capabilities that have made EagleView the number one geospatial data provider in North America," summarized Jurasek. “Now, our customers will be able to integrate our proprietary imagery and property data sets into their own products and workflows, speeding innovation and delivery.”
