What is and is not a metal deck?

A.C.T. What is and is not a metal deck
July 4, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Learn from this short video how to identify whether you are working with metal deck or not.

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply has been working with metal deck and fulfilling customer orders since 1970. With 15 distribution centers around the Eastern side of the U.S., they pride themselves on affordable costs, quick turnaround times, quality customer service and having the solution for your project, no matter the size. Today, they are the largest distributor of metal deck and its accessories in the country. The name of their game is metal decks and they are your one-stop shop.

In an effort to help their customers leave with not only the physical tools and supplies they need for their projects, but also the knowledge they need for installation, A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply created a video series called Metal Deck 101. This series covers everything from how to find the right metal deck for a unique project to understanding the difference between a floor and a roof deck.

In this episode, titled “What Metal Deck is NOT”,  Michael Polizzi, a sales manager for A.C.T. walks you through what makes metal deck stand apart from other products produced in a similar method, such as standing seam metal panels. In the video, members of the A.C.T. team go through a series of examples of non-metal decks to help viewers visualize and understand how to separate them from other products.

Michael explained, “We often say metal deck is a structural product not an architectural product. An easy way to tell the difference is by asking, does it have a finished paint color and is it meant to be exposed on the outside?” If it has a finished color, especially with a warranty, it is probably not a metal deck. If you’re still struggling to identify what you are working with, the team at A.C.T. can help! Michael explained, “We're always happy to help identify these profiles and can usually tell from a photo.”
