In a recent Roofing Road Trips podcast, Heidi J. Ellsworth visited with Jeff Littleton, Harrison Jarman and Kelly Connors from All Points Tile & Slate to talk about how their services can help contractors save time and money. During their conversation, they discuss how to use this program, what is involved and how they make it easy to use with things like courtesy pickups. They also speak on how selling your used tile to All Points can help homeowners lower their insurance deductible and so much more!
The Buyback Program from All Points Tile & Slate is unique in that they buy back tiles from contractors and occasionally homeowners. “We like to buy back discontinued tiles that aren't being produced anymore. And we take in these serviceable tiles and we'll store them until people are ready to buy them to repair other roofs,” Harrison said. This way, whenever one roof is demolished, it’s an opportunity to save future roofs.
Roofing materials like tile last much longer, so repairs can usually be made with pieces rather than complete re-roofing. These materials are also heavy and challenging to dispose of. Jeff says it’s a win-win situation between their company and the contractor. Jobs aren’t complete until the roof is done and the job site is clean, meaning the contractor must remove the extra tiles before he gets paid. Instead of worrying about what to do with it, he can call Jeff’s crew and they’ll do a courtesy pickup. Not only do they grab the material, but they’ll also ensure all of the debris is cleaned up around it as well. If they can resell the tile they will, otherwise they repurpose it for fill.
The Florida area is primarily where their outreach efforts are focused, but they do find tile all over. “We've found tiles out of state before and all across the nation, but a lot of times the freight outweighs the benefit of the cost of the tile and it just doesn't make it feasible sometimes,” Harrison said.
For the Buyback Program, there are some eligibility requirements to consider. Kelly Connors explains, “Primarily we deal with discontinued tiles and that could be clay or concrete, but I'd say probably primarily concrete.” As for current tiles, they “do pick up tiles that are still in production, that are still being made today. The majority of those are going to be courtesy pickups though. Our niche really is in the discontinued tile market.”
