The Rapidly Changing World of Roofing Technology

Beacon Technology That is Changing Roofing watch now
April 27, 2023 at 3:00 a.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

Check in with industry pros to see how the roofing world has changed over the last decade on this month’s Read, Listen, Watch webinar.

RoofersCoffeeShop® has made it easier than ever for members of the roofing and construction industries to learn how they want, when they want, where they want with their Read, Listen, Watch (RLW) initiative. Whether you want to read a transcript, listen to a podcast or watch a webinar, the Coffee Shop has made it possible for you to learn your way.

After decades of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality in the roofing industry, the last ten years has certainly proved that 21st century technology is affecting all facets of industries, including roofing. On this month’s Read, Listen, Watch podcast, host, Heidi J. Ellsworth, sat down with Greg Bloom of Beacon and John Kiesel of Division 7 Roofing to discuss some of the advances that have been made in roofing technologies.

Drones and obtaining aerial footage is something that many thought would only be capable by camera crews at football games and military personnel, but the 2010’s made aerial footage possible for more commercial and recreational purposes. “I'll never forget the first time someone told me about [aerial imagery] I was like, ‘What? What are you talking about? What? Aerial imagery? What? How's that going to work?’ Well, look at it now.” Greg said.

The advancement of technology in the field isn’t the only thing that’s progressed significantly either — distribution has been made far more convenient. “Well, the adoption of technology when it relates to distribution has definitely come a long way from the days you'd get a fax, you would have to meet with your rep,” John recalls.

The world has adapted an “on demand” culture but John thinks that the roofing industry has kept up with the times. “Right now, we're just inundated with expectations of people wanting information now,” says John. “So, I think distribution has done a great job with keeping up with those expectations of getting you that price and getting that quote, getting the negotiations handled, and you can turn these estimates into proposals.”
