There’s no way around it- in an increasingly online world, your business needs to have a solid online presence. Having assets like great SEO and an interesting blog can go a long way in keeping customers on your site and grow your business. On a recent RCS Webinar, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Karen Edwards of RoofersCoffeeShop and Stephen Spence from Project Map It to discuss what you should be doing to strengthen your online presence.
Google is the new Yellow Pages and having your company’s website be on the front page is incredibly helpful for growth. What should you be doing to get on Google’s good side? Putting out fresh content is a good way to start. Karen told Heidi, “A blog is so important. 300 words, it doesn't have to be that long, but put that content out there.” You should be writing about pertinent things that customers ask you all the time. She continues, “Think about the questions that, as a contractor, you get asked. How much will it cost to replace my roof? People ask you that all the time. Write up a couple of paragraphs about it. If you can provide answers, then it’s fantastic.”
SEO, or search engine optimization, is also so important for getting your company seen. Finding keywords that pertain to your business makes it easier for the Google algorithm to find you. These keywords could differ depending on where in the country you are. Google reviews are also extremely important in your company’s growth. Stephen recalls talking to some contractors and them saying things like, “Yeah, we don't really care about reviews as much and, ’We get everything word of mouth. So, everything's referral based.’" To him, that was a big red flag that their online presence was not where it needed to be. He continues, “Word of mouth isn't necessarily going to get you all the referrals anymore... reviews are the word of mouth. And so, reviews are very important to get.”
