Explore how this roofing company chooses products and what it means to offer performance products in the construction industry.  

In a recent episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth and Rudy Gutierrez discuss performance products in roofing. Rudy is the president and CEO of Shell Roofing Solutions, a commercial roofing company in California that he started to ensure he could offer better building efficiencies to his customers. He shares how he chooses performance products, including USG Securock® Brand Roof Boards, and how they provide value to his business. 

When it comes to selling performance, Rudy says, “You have to be open to talking about a life cycle... Sometimes when you spend the least amount of money, it actually costs you way more money in the long-term. It costs you money to maintain, it costs you money to repair and ultimately, you're replacing two systems within what could be that one warranted long-term period with good performance systems.” 

To ensure the value of long-term performance products, he admits, you may spend a little more money upfront. But he shares that this is not only important for quality, but for brand reputation too. He explains, “My strategy with long-term performance and long-term warranties is partnering with the right manufacturers that have tested products. We opt to go in this direction because often you're the one tied to that product, meaning by name. Your brand is tied to that product. And if it fails, you'll be the first phone call.” 

Building these relationships and partnering with the right manufacturers makes all the difference. This is why he trusts USG Securock® Brand for his roof board needs. He shares, “You have to have the right people behind you. Manufacturers, distribution, that support your company from the product line, spec level, all the way to loading and delivering material. There's a partnership there. They are part of your company.
