The Benefits of a Proven Protective Film

Dupont Tedlar Film
June 4, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

DuPont™ Tedlar® Film is versatile, durable, and trusted by countless industries.

On a recent episode of Roofing Road Trips, host, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with DuPont™ Tedlar®’s Corynn Sheridan and Ted Deaton of RPI Roofing to discuss some of the many benefits of DuPont™ Tedlar®’s film as an alternative to coil coatings for metal roofing.

One of the benefits of the film is that it comes in a wide array of colors. On a project done in Hilton Head, South Carolina, the roof was perfectly fitted with a beautiful gray color. Corynn explained, “Tedlar® is available in a range of colors and matches most of the most popular PVDF colors on the market. There's also transparent Tedlar film if you want to see the look of the metal underneath. You can achieve a wide range of finished looks for a roof or façade.”

One of the other benefits of the film is that even after 40-50 years of use, the color hardly fades at all. "There is very, very low color change over time,” Corynn told Heidi, “So, if you need to replace a panel, all you need to replace is the one damaged panel because the color change is virtually [none] at all over the course of 40, 50 years, which helps keep the maintenance low.”

Another major benefit of the product is that it will not mold or mildew, which makes it very practical for coastal homes. Ted explained, “It's not going to mildew like a PVDF paint finish like we have in the Southeast where we have high humidity conditions and mildew and mold grow easily.” Corynn added, “It does not support the growth of mold or mildew, so it's actually used in the inside of hospitals quite often. It's great for healthcare environments as well as restaurants and other sterile environments because it is so safe for interior use.”
