Taking Metal to the Beach

DuPont Tedlar taking metal to the beach
June 15, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter.

Corynn Sheridan and Tara Faulkner explain how this groundbreaking new film provides protection from coastal elements eroding metal roofs.

In Season 4, Episode 15 of Roofing Road Trips, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits with Corynn Sheridan, the global marketing director at DuPont Tedlar and Tara Faulkner, business development manager at Metal Alliance for a conversation about how Tedlar® PVF Films from DuPont are taking metal to the coast!

Living on the coast might conjure images of breezy sea air and sunshine-filled beach days, but the reality is that living so close to the sea can take a huge toll on homes. Hurricanes, hail, wind and rain all demand a durable roof that can withstand the harshest elements. And even when the weather is beautiful, the salty air and sun can do a number on a roof. That is why Tedlar® on a metal roof is such a gamechanger, because it allows coastal homeowners a beautiful, durable and resilient roof.

“Tedlar's basically working as a superior alternative to protective coating system,” explains Corynn. “So it's giving metal an extreme level of durability and protection in these challenging environments. Tedlar® has performed extremely well in long-term Florida weathering tests, showing essentially no appearance change over 30, 40, years of sun and weather exposure.

You heard that right, Tedlar®-protected metal is the best of both worlds: all of the durability and beauty of a coated metal roof, with advanced protection from the weathering elements that made metal by the sea so challenging.

“A lot of the questions that we get directly from the panel manufacturers now is, ‘How well will our aluminum products hold up in a coastal environment?’ And the answer to that is it does have the high velocity hurricane zone testing and paired with the best-in-class performance of the Tedlar® finish,” says Tara. “It's such an incredible product for that installation.”
