Editor’s note: As RoofersCoffeeShop continues to shine a light on roofing around the world, we wanted to share information from the Swiss team at the International Federation of Roofing Trades (IFD) Young Roofers Competition. Following is a press release from the Gebaudehulle Schweiz (Building Envelope Switzerland). We wanted to share what we are hearing and seeing from this exciting competition. At the 29th World Championships of Young Roofers, the Swiss team achieved medal positions in all four disciplines. The competition took place from 13 to 15 November in Innsbruck, Austria. Podium places were successfully defended in all four categories.
At the 29th World Championships, the Swiss teams once again secured a medal position in every category. The joy at this award ceremony was immense. The teams for Sealing, Roofing, and Metal Roofing proudly claimed silver medals. The Façade team emerged victorious with a gold medal.

The mandatory part of the championships took place on Wednesday, 13 November, and Thursday, 14 November, in Hall D of the Innsbruck Trade Fair. The tasks were judged by an international jury. During the freestyle segment on Friday, 15 November, participants competed for the President’s Special Prize of the International Federation for the Roofing Trade (IFD). The awards ceremony occurred the same evening at a historic event location in nearby Hall – the "Salzlager," an industrial monument built in 1856 as a central storage site for the salt trade.
Switzerland has consistently demonstrated excellence in the field of building envelopes. Alongside the three silver medals, the gold medal in the Façade category was a source of great pride. Consequently, Swiss teams maintained podium placements across all four disciplines.
At the professional world championships, teams from various countries compete to become the world's best building envelope specialists. This year, 27 two-person teams from eleven countries participated. Switzerland was represented by the first- and second-place winners of the Swiss Championships 2022. Other participating countries this year included America, Germany, China, Estonia, Latvia, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, and the United Kingdom (UK).
The next professional world Championships in 2026 will be in Budapest, Hungary.

Founded in 1907, Building Envelope Switzerland is now the center of expertise for the building envelope industry. As a national industry association, it represents the professions of roofer, waterproofing specialist, façade builder, and solar installer. Together with five partner associations, it operates educational centers, such as Polybau in Uzwil (SG), the vocational school location in Grenchen (SO), and Polybat in Les Paccots (FR).
