The Strength and Quality of Underlayments Equals Strong Warranties

MB Technology offers 10-, 15-, 20- and 30-year warranties on Layfast SBS underlayments.

In a world with a large number of options when it comes to roofing underlayments, it is important to look at the strength and quality of what is needed for a high-performance roof such as tile, slate and/or wood. Not all roofing systems are equal and obviously there is not one underlayment that fits all scenarios.

Most of the quality tile, shingle, and metal roofing manufacturers offer 30+ year warranties — these usually cover deterioration of tile and shingle only. Since the underlayment is the only moisture barrier used in the assembly, employing an inferior underlayment with a shorter life expectancy will compromise the system’s integrity.

MB Technology has developed a system of warranties that covers the most important waterproofing element of the roof, the underlayment. Using Layfast SBS underlayment products, they can offer 10, 15, 20 and 30-year warranties. By utilizing the following combinations, longer warranties can be obtained:

• One layer of TU35 or TULF40 = 10-year warranty
• One Layer of TU43 = 15-year warranty
• One layer of Supercap SBS (Can be exposed up to 1 year) or Two Layers of TU35 or TULF40 = 20-year warranty
• Two Layers of TU43 or one layer of TU70 + 30-year warranty

The addition of SBS rubber to asphalt gives underlayments an electrometric property that is not available in other underlayments. SBS modified underlayments contain a higher percentage of asphalt for increased waterproofing. Its inorganic fiberglass reinforcement eliminates rot and deterioration.
