Solve two problems with one ridge vent

Quarrix Solve two Problems
June 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Protect your attic with the best and most efficient ridge vent available on the market!

Quarrix Building Products has been producing ridge vents for decades, as Mark Huysken, a strategic account manager for the company explained to RoofersCoffeeShop crew member Lauren White at the 2024 International Roofing Expo (IRE). He started with a bit of background on the company, “We've been making this vent since the nineties with a couple minor tweaks around 2000. We're on millions of roofs in the United States.”

These ridge vents are designed to protect a building’s attic by letting air out and keeping weather from coming in. Mark provided a couple of demos at IRE. One of these visualized the release of air from the attic by using a smokebox that he designed himself. He explained why they wanted to highlight this, saying, “One of the reasons we put this together is because [there’s] a misconception in the marketplace that our ridge vent, specifically our membrane doesn't let air through. And you can see the smoke billowing out here.”

The other demo he presented showcased the waterproof nature of that same membrane. He described the function. “We can take water head on right into the front of our ridge vent and the water doesn't get into the attic space. This waterproof membrane stops water, stops snow, but it lets air through, which does a great job of protecting the attic.”

The cherry on top of all of this is the fact that Quarrix’s ridge vents are nail-able and eliminate the need of an external baffle. For contractors and crews on the roof, this means they have a quick and easy installation process. For building owners and homeowners, this means their roof has a sleek, low-profile look.
