Slow season? 8 ways to bring in new business

MARCO Slow Season Revenue Streams
April 19, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Marco Industries.

Exploring new income streams for roofing businesses.

While roofing companies work steadily year round, there are times money can get tight when business slows down. This decrease in cash flow could be because of the economy, the season or many other factors, causing business to not be what it normally is. Roofers often look for new ways to make money and keep their business strong when this happens.

Here are some ideas for extra services that roofers can offer to help bring in more income:

  1. Maintenance packages: Offer annual or semi-annual roof maintenance packages to homeowners. Regular inspections, gutter cleaning and minor repairs can help prevent major issues, and homeowners may be willing to pay for ongoing roof care.
  2. Solar panel installation: With the growing interest in sustainable energy, roofers can expand their services to include solar panel installation. Solar installations on roofs are increasingly popular, and roofers can collaborate with solar companies or acquire the necessary expertise to offer this service.
  3. Skylight installation: Adding skylights to a home not only enhances natural light but also adds aesthetic value. Roofers can offer skylight installation services to homeowners looking to brighten up their living spaces.
  4. Holiday light installation: Landscaping companies often expand their business to include this, but why couldn’t roofers do the same? After all, nobody has more up-on-the-rooftop experience.
  5. Roof inspections for real estate transactions: Partner with real estate agents or directly offer roof inspection services for homeowners looking to sell or buy a property. A thorough roof inspection can be a selling point or a negotiation tool in real estate transactions.
  6. Green roofing solutions: Cater to the growing demand for eco-friendly options by offering green roofing solutions. This may include installing green roofs with vegetation, providing insulation benefits and contributing to environmental sustainability.
  7. Emergency repair services: Establish an emergency repair service for urgent roofing issues. Homeowners facing sudden leaks or storm damage often seek immediate assistance, and offering emergency repair services can be a lucrative niche.
  8. Ventilation systems: Proper ventilation is crucial for the longevity of a roof. Roofers can provide installation and maintenance services for ventilation systems, including ridge vents, attic fans and other solutions that promote air circulation.

Successful diversification takes effort, but it can be well worth it. By offering additional services that complement your core roofing expertise, you can create a more resilient and profitable business that can survive the ups and downs of the market.
