Growing your business often needs to start as an internal process. One of the best ways to set up your team for success is to improve your internal communication and processes. This is what drives The GLO Group in their work as a full-service, brand engagement firm. Their work focuses on elevating your team’s alignment, building a stronger work culture and connecting employees to the purpose and goals of the organization. We recently got the chance to speak to Monica Vornbrock and Melissa Chapman of the GLO Group about how they do this.
The GLO Group’s work with any company always begins with an assessment of the organizations' challenges and goals. Monica elaborated, “We start with the leadership team to understand what challenges the organization may be facing and what they hope to accomplish. Then, we create a strategy for this workshop and survey the participants to understand where they're coming from to establish a baseline.” This baseline provides insight for your GLO Group coach on what current team dynamics are and any gaps that exist between where the company is and where it wants to go.
In addition to understanding the current state of the company, The GLO Group’s initial analysis also includes a communication assessment and intake survey to understand the communication style, goals and challenges of each of the individual members of the team. The assessment that is used was carefully chosen because they specifically wanted to avoid psychology-based personality assessments like Myers Briggs and DISC. Melissa explained why they avoided this, saying, “We wanted to really hone in on how people perceive you based on your communication styles, because what we have found is that most challenges within organizations, or things that get in the way of them performing optimally, is rooted in either poor communication, miscommunication or lack of communication.” This could be as simple as defining a word like teamwork differently. Melissa shared, “Oftentimes we'll use words that will have one meaning to me and have a different meaning to you. And if the team doesn’t have a universal understanding of words used when conversing, that's where the miscommunication can occur.” By emphasizing and facilitating healthy communication, the GLO Group has successfully helped set a variety of companies up for growth and success resulting in improved employee retention and recruitment and increased revenue and profitability.
