There are amazing companies in the roofing industry but it is the people who make this industry so incredible. We are a family that constantly cheers each other’s successes and cries over each other’s heart breaks. I recently met a young man who is from a generational roofing family. They have been extremely active in the NRCA and are loved by many. The Gooding family suffered heartbreak when they lost the matriarch of their family, Mary Gooding, to Alzheimer’s disease.
Reed Gooding, John and Mary’s son, watched as he slowly lost his mom, one day at a time. He has taken over the roofing business, GSM Roofing, but has found passion in a new concept he created to help raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s. He wants to share it with our great industry.
“After watching John Gooding, my dad, provide 10 years of care and support and LOVE for Mary Gooding, my mom, I understand the importance of the Longest Day,” states Gooding. “Every single day was his Longest Day, and each day became a little longer as he continued to care for my mom as she declined from the effects of Alzheimer's. As I've become more and more involved in the Alzheimer's Association, I recognize that his story is not rare or unique. This team is for all of the caregivers, paid and unpaid, to show our support for the work that you do for our loved ones with Alzheimer's or other dementias.
So he launched #AnHour4Alz. “On the Summer Solstice, The Longest Day, June 20, I'm leading a movement to raise awareness and unprecedented funds for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association,” continued Gooding. “I'm going to ask every working person in America to donate 1 hour of their paycheck to the Alzheimer's Association to support the caregivers and to WORK FOR A CURE!
As an industry, we should not only be incredibly proud of what Reed Gooding and his family are doing but also be a part of this incredible campaign which is slated to not only raise awareness but raise unprecedented funds for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. The RoofersCoffeeShop.com is in! We hope all of you will consider helping with this amazing cause!
