Roofing Road Trips with Heidi Welcomes Sherwin Williams’ Mark MacDonald

Roofing Road Trip with Mark MacDonald
June 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

Mark shares with Heidi how Sherwin-Williams is innovating and digitizing the metal roofing market.

When you think of the metal roofing market, do you associate that with innovation? Sherwin-Williams does and Sales and Marketing Manager Mark MacDonald shares with Heidi just what the company is doing to help contractors Make More with Metal.

Contractors are looking for ways to differentiate themselves now more than ever. “Our customers and their customers, the contractors themselves, want the opportunity to discriminate themselves in the market. Any time you're in a competitive market, that's certainly something that you need to bring to the table,” shares Mark.

Mark thinks that one thing contractors are looking for right now in the market is being responsive to their customers. “So not only do you have to have the right colors, the right technology and innovation, but also the ability to beat out your competitor in the market. So that speed to market is important and bringing the right products to that customer are also equally important,” says Mark.

Having the diversity of options to offer to customers is especially important to contractors and can also help them stand out from the competition. Metal performance, unique aesthetics such as textured appearances and a variety of products that can be put on a roof are all additional selling points that contractors can combine with technological tools, to showcase the versatility of metal roofing.

Visualization is a powerful innovation that contractors can use to help their customers see what their homes will look like. Mark shares that they are “seeing an explosion in an interest in visualization, across the board, specific to metal roofing.”

“Another thing that we're seeing an interest in is tools that make bidding itself easier, and quicker. And that's especially important for metal, because it is much more of a complex offering than, say, a simple asphalt roof,” says Mark.

The conversation is filled with useful information, resources and tools that contractors can use to be successful in the metal roofing market. Listen to the full episode here.
