The day began at the National Women in Roofing brunch at Succotash Restaurant where attendees enjoyed a panel, featuring our own James Ellsworth, talking about how to get involved in your local and state politics and make a difference.
"It is really easy to get involved and become and advocate on the local level," said James. "At RoofersCoffeeShop we are trying to engage constituents with their representatives. It's as simple as showing up."
Following amazing food and networking, the crew made their way to the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. to register for the activities and learn about the issues being talked about in the meetings with our representatives. Key topics include the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, funding for career and technical education and supporting solutions to workforce shortages including immigration reform and the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act.
Seating at the educational sessions saw people grouped by state and region to plan their strategy for visiting their legislators tomorrow. Further discussions took place at the reception afterward for a unified presence on Capitol Hill tomorrow.
RCS President Heidi J. Ellsworth said, "This is one of the most important events of the year for the roofing industy. It is a true bipartisan effort to help the roofing industy and specifically roofing contactrors in their home states and nationally. We saw many RCS contractors, manufacturers and distributors who are taking their time to make a difference in Washington D.C. We are proud to be a part of this day."
The RCS crew is excited to represent the roofing industry tomorrow on the Hill and talk about the issues that are important to our industry. We will be there, wearing our red colors, to advocate for the industry overall and help advance the initiatives that affect our livelihood.
