Caught Doing Good Chang family home

By Cass Jacoby.

Local contractor is making a difference one roof at a time in Fox Valley, Wisconsin.

This June marked the 50th installation and halfway point in the “Legacy 100” initiative. The initiative, created by JF Lopez Roofing has set a goal to donate the labor to install 100 Habitat Homes and roofs for the residents of the Greater Menasha area.

This ambitious goal is part of addressing the issue of affordable housing and making owning a home possible for more people in the community. The idea is to drastically change neighborhoods for the better and change the lives of those within the community.

"If you want to change the world start in your neighborhood and this is changing families for generations,” Mark Bartolutti, the co-owner of JF Lopez Roofing told Fox 11 News.

The recipients of the halfway milestone roof installation were the Chang family. Mai Vang and Ha Chang and their nine children have lived in Menasha for three years but were still in need of a permanent home. Luckily, they were selected to be the halfway milestone roof in the Legacy 100 initiative.

“We’re all happy. We’re glad that we actually have a sponsor. We thought we were not going to get it, but when we found out that we got approved, we were all excited,” Mai tells WFRV Local 5.The foundation for the Chang family’s future home began on the third of June. This initiative is supported by Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity with materials donated from GAF.

“This is going to be life-changing,” says CEO and President of Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity John Weyenberg. “The opportunity for families to own a home, have a safe and affordable place for their children to learn and grow, this is why we do what we do.”
