Best Roofing rolls up in a vintage VW full of food.

All over the country people are struggling to feed themselves and their families. While this was true before the pandemic, COVID-19 definitely made things worse as people lost their jobs, were forced to quit or voluntarily quit for their own health and safety as well as the health and safety of those around them.

In the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area, the need for food has grown substantially, especially within elderly communities. Best Roofing, a local contractor, witnessed this growing need and decided to do something about.

They arrived at the Pantry of Broward in a vintage VW van filled to the brim with food and drinks to donate to their community, as reported by local news outlet, WSVN 7 News.

Best Roofing is a family owned and operated roofing company that specializes in commercial and industrial roofing systems and sheet metal. Their top priority is customer satisfaction and safety, so it was no wonder that they stepped up to help those in need in their community.

The two organizations partnered to hold a food drive, but Best Roofing didn’t stop there. They also donated a check to the Pantry of Broward for $1,000 to continue to support the food bank from afar and to aid Pantry of Broward in their many other services. “We did this to be able to provide to the senior citizens and grandparents that are maybe having a little more trouble than we are,” says Kiana Enrique, Best Roofing’s spokeswoman.

The Pantry of Broward calls themselves a “one-stop-shop” for struggling seniors, who mostly live on low, fixed incomes and spend their time raising grandchildren. For those who qualify, The Pantry of Broward provides a 55-pound box of nutritional food every month, usually enough to provide 46 meals. Along with food, The Pantry of Broward assists in affordable housing needs, including repairs and emergency billing assistance. They also help grandparents in the courtroom who need to attain legal custody over their grandchildren as well as helping seniors navigate affordable healthcare and acquiring prescription medications.

With this myriad of services, it is no wonder that Pantry of Broward caught the eye of Best Roofing. Michelle Barthole, the program director for Pantry of Broward told WSVN 7, “They really came through for us. All that they’ve done is really going to help the community and the people we serve, and we are so grateful and thankful for them.”

Do you know of someone in the industry who is ‘doing good deeds’ in their community? Help us catch them at it. Send news and information to info@rooferscoffeeshop.com.
