Everyday roofing heroes helping the community

Everyday roofing heroes helping the community
August 18, 2024 at 3:00 a.m.

By Hannah Ford.

These roofers see a need and support their community’s one roof at a time.

Local roofers and their standout roofing companies across the country are fulfilling good deeds from West Virginia to Louisiana and Illinois. They repair and replace roofs for many deserving members of their community, giving back to those who support them. These acts of kindness are key to the foundation of roofing: helping others stay safe and dry. Both the roofers and roofing companies in the following stories are great examples of the generosity of the roofing community.

1 - Ultimate Roofing and Marion County Humane Society

The Marion County Humane Society has been a staple in Marion County, West Virginia for years. They are one of the shelters that operate on a “no kill" principle. They work to find every animal a home, and if an animal can’t find a home, they try to make one in their shelter. What they needed was a new roof for their animals to play safely in the sun without concern about sun damage.

Ultimate Roofing decided they wanted to provide the Marion County Humane Society with a new roof. This roof was a state-of-the-art outdoor sunshade for the Humane Society to expand their practice without putting any of the animals in danger. When speaking about the animals, Tony Vincent, the owner of Ultimate Roofing, told WDTV, “This not only improves their overall well-being but also allows them to have a more positive experience while they wait for their forever homes. We saw this as an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years. Now, the dogs can enjoy their playtime outside in a safe and shaded environment.”

2 - Central Roofing and Robert Broderick, Jr.

Central Roofing is a veteran-owned and operated business in Illinois and understands the major contribution veterans give to their community and country. When Robert Broderick, Jr, a disabled U.S. Marine Veteran, needed a new roof they were there to provide.

In collaboration with the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, Central Roofing was able to give Robert a roof replacement for free. “We take it pretty big with our veterans to try and help and push anything we can. Like I said, just being a veteran-owned business, our owner really pushes to try and help with all our veterans in need,” the Project Manager of Central Roofing, Clayton Pforr, explained to My Wabash Valley.

3 – Pelican Roofing and Verna Ortego

Last winter, the loving mother Verna Ortego was diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition to this detrimental news, Verna also needed a new roof. With the extreme cost of medical bills to treat her cancer, her roof repair fell to the wayside.

In an attempt to help his mother out, Brett Ortega applied to the Mother’s Day roof giveaway from Pelican Roofing in Louisiana. On May 24, the Pelican team went to Verna’s house to tell her the good news. Verna was completely shocked when she learned she had won the giveaway and would be receiving a new roof. “You just take it one day at a time and one bill at a time and deal with it,” Verna said to WAFB 9. “It’s a tremendous help it really is, it’s just one less thing to have to worry about.”
