Roofer Shares His “Day in the Life”

WTI Mike Shares Day in His Life
January 13, 2023 at 6:00 a.m.

By Alec Doniger.

An opportunity offered to Mike Zeillmann by WTI changed his whole career.

Mike Zeillmann didn’t expect that one day he would be a roofer. It was only while he was working towards his degree in science and construction that he found out about the roofing industry. Soon enough, an outreach coordinator from WTI informed him that he could get his bachelor’s in construction management for free if he joined the company. As soon as he graduated from his current program, he inquired about the job and became a part of the team.

Mike now works for the WTI inspections team. They inspect roofs in a variety of different U.S. states. Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia are three states that he regularly visits for work. His favorite part of the job is the traveling. “Before I joined here, I never visited around too much,” Mike recalls, “But I feel like I've seen a lot of cool places, been able to do a lot of cool things that I normally wouldn't do.”

TremCare® is the maintenance program that the inspections team adheres to. By implementing this program, Mike provides excellent customer service.

“For already existing warranties, I make sure that the roofs are looking okay, perform any preventive maintenance, and then make any recommendations based on any conditions I see,” explains Mike.

Without people like Mike, customers may not be aware of what options are available to them, resulting in wasted time and money. Mike educates, which is a highly valuable form of customer service.

When asked what he expects his career path will be, Mike relayed his clear vision:

“I'm currently in the RISE program, which is kind of a partnership between WTI and the University of Akron in order to get my bachelor's in construction management. I'm hoping at the end of next year, 2023, I should have my associates in construction management and then hopefully I'll be in the construction management associate position at WTI. Then hopefully, a few years later, I'll be able to get that bachelor's and become a full construction management person for Tremco.”

Mike’s plan of action is indicative of his ambition. His character stands out, and WTI has recognized this in him.
