Trent Lovewell’s been with Weatherguard, Inc. for almost 25 years and is passionate about selling. The Nebraska native was originally a college basketball coach. But he got tired of not making money — and he saw greater potential in the Omaha marketplace for roofing. He was right. Now the Vice President of Sales and Operations for one of the most prestigious roofing and siding installers in his marketplace, Lovewell also serves as an expert resource for dealing with insurance adjusters after major storms.
Q: About how many DaVinci projects does Weatherguard install each year?
A: We install about 60 DaVinci jobs a year. Of those, roughly 20 are due to storm damage that has rolled through our area.
Q: That’s a large number of composite roofing projects. What makes your company recommend DaVinci products over other competitive composite products?
A: First of all, we do push DaVinci over all other competitive products. That’s because the DaVinci products look like real slate and shake. They’re made in the USA with no recycled material. Their longevity and durability are impressive. I’ve been around long enough to see how they repeatedly stand up to severe weather. We offer our customers only the best of what’s available in the marketplace.
Q: What single tip would you give another roofer for how to increase their sales using composite products?
A: That’s easy. Trust the product to sell for you. The outstanding features and benefits, plus the amazing aesthetics of a DaVinci tile will sell itself to a customer.
Q: Tell us about a favorite project or two your company has worked on with DaVinci products.
A: We’ve done many, but a few were new construction homes in Michigan and Montana, along with some re-roof projects in Virginia and Alabama. These were special to me because the people knew what they wanted. However, they couldn’t find the right fit for a roofer to install what they wanted. When they found Weatherguard, they felt at home with us. They put their full trust in us and we got the job done right!
Q: If you left Omaha and moved to a completely different marketplace, say Arizona or Maine, how would you introduce composite products to the marketplace?
A: I would sell the area and people on how composite products will be the last roof they ever install because of its durability and warranty. Plus, a composite roof completely changes the look of their home and offers the chance for much lower homeowner insurance premiums.
Q: Now, imagine you’ve just been given $5 million with one hitch. You have to spend it all in 24 hours. How do you spend it?
A: I start by tithing to my church, helping out some non-profits and lower income families. Then I get busy and create a company that would help my family have a business for the future. Next I pay off all my debt. Then I get a realtor on board really quickly and buy homes in both the mountain area of Montana and a beach area in the South. That should make for a busy 24 hours!
