Roofer profile: Scott Kim, WGM Contracting

RMSG roofer profile Scott Kim
July 3, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.

Experienced roofer, Scott Kim, talks about his favorite products to use when installing snow retention systems.

Veteran owned and operated, WGM Contracting provides a complete line of roofing, siding, trim and gutter services to people throughout Virginia, Maryland and the Washington, D.C. areas. Led by three-time combat veteran Scott Kim, the company brings honesty and integrity to every project.

Q: In your marketplace, about how many projects do you work on each year that require snow guards?

A: There are more than a dozen each year. Our favorite composite roofing product to install is DaVinci Roofscapes slate and shake. These products are great for business and make us lots of money. Each time we install composite products in an area prone to winter weather we recommend homeowners invest in a snow retention system.

Q: Why are you using snow retention particularly with composite roofing?

A: Composite roofing can be very slick with built up snow; snow guards help keep the snow in place on the roof instead of avalanching at one time. It’s definitely a safety issue. The snow guards play a huge role in helping prevent injuries from built up snow and ice coming over the roof edge and gutters. They can also help increase the longevity of the roof decking/framing.

Q: What snow retention systems are your favorite go to products?

A: We like both the Yeti 18 snow guards and the RG 16 snow guards from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards. Both offer a sturdiness that homeowners appreciate.

Q: How often do you use the free architectural snow retention planning services from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards?

A: Most of the time. This is a very helpful tool that we trust.

Q: What keeps your company coming back to Rocky Mountain Snow Guards?

A: We’ve found that this company manufactures the most effective snow guards. Not only are they durable, but they’re also practical and aesthetically appealing. And, the free shipping of their products is a definite bonus for us!
