Whether it’s a leaky roof or a full re-roofing job, Doug Gray and his family-owned business Strait Line Roofing has the motto that no job is too big or too small. When working in Colorado, it’s not just about installing roof tiles. As Doug will tell you, it’s also about protecting the people, pets and property below the roof. That’s why he and his company have relied on Rocky Mountain Snow Guards for their snow retention system needs.
Q: Doug, tell us about the geography you install roofing in and what kind of snow retention systems are needed for your customers.
A: Our company has been serving the Denver Metro area for 24 years. We service the mountain areas of Evergreen and Bailey to the plains area of Elbert and Elizabeth. Both geographic areas require different types of roofing and snow retention systems.
Q: What type of roofing material do you tend to install most, and what’s your favorite “go to” snow retention products that you use repeatedly with that material?
A: At Strait Line Roofing we mostly install asphalt products on 75% of our roofs. However, we often install DaVinci Roofscapes and standing seam metal roofs. These are slicker roofs that benefit from snow guards. The pitch of each roof dictates the type of snow retention product we use. In general, the RG16 has been the snow guard we have used the most often.
Q. What’s the most challenging/interesting roofing project you’ve ever done where a snow retention system was involved?
A: We completed a large scale DaVinci shake project in Larkspur, Colorado with a 10/12 pitch and beyond where snow retention was a must. The setting of this home and its multiple angles made snow guards essential. We ended up installing 1,257 of the RG16 snow guards from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards. This was the impressive project that was recently named the runner up winner in the "2024 Show Us Our Snow Guards Contest" sponsored by Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.
Q. Why are you using the free architectural snow retention plan from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards when you’re working on a roofing project?
A: This free service helps us explain to our customers the need for snow retention on a roof. It shows them how snow guards will help manage the release of snow from their roof each winter.
Q: What keeps your company coming back to Rocky Mountain Snow Guards for your snow retention needs?
A: The staff and knowledge at Rocky Mountain Snow Guards is incredible; they have samples and pricing available at all times to help us expedite the bidding process.
